Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
