Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
