Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
